I am beyond excited to share this wedding!

I met Leah and Chad last year over coffee and could immediately tell that the two of them were a perfect match.  They are an amazing example of balance in a relationship.  Leah is an energetic, high volume, spitfire of a woman and Chad is a thoughtful, soft spoken, strong silent type.  But while they may seem like complete opposites at first glance, they really are two peas in a pod.  Throughout my time spent with them I saw how in sync they are.  They’re one of those couples that I think may actually be able to read each others minds!  They both are classy and elegant and yet wonderfully cool and a little quirky in their own beautiful way.  I am so happy to know them and thrilled to be a part of their wedding day.

Speaking of their wedding day – let’s get down to the details!  We love all things elegant, unique and glittery and this wedding knocked it out of the park!

The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald was the perfect venue for Leah and Chad’s “I do’s”.  Both the ceremony and reception took place in the charming and historic Wedgewood Room.  The soft colours and intricate details on the walls of this circular room were the perfect backdrop to Chad and Leah’s big day.

The wedding was full of rich, luxurious colours.  Navy, marsala and aubergine accented with blush, touches of gold and rose gold created the perfect palette for this elegant and romantic winter wedding.  Decor elements from Special Event Rentals and Dress My Day were brought together to create a romantic and elegant reception space.  We layered blush sequinned runners on top of blush satin linens and accented white covered banquet chairs with aubergine chair ties.  A mix of marsala, blush and ivory place cards from Glossie were the perfect finishing touch on the simple but elegant place settings featuring glass charger plates and aubergine napkins.

The head table is one of my favourite elements of the reception space.  Leah was not shy about going full glitz and sparkle!  We covered the table with blush sequinned floor length linens and Wendy from Tickled Floral created a gorgeous greenery swag which she expertly draped across the front.  Mercury glass string lights along the edge of the table were the perfect finishing touch.
Mercury glass was another underlying motif when it came to centerpieces.  Leah scoured nearly every Homesense in the city (and one in Red Deer!) to track down a collection of mercury glass containers in gold, silver, rose gold and even a marsala tone to hold her floral centerpieces.
Wendy and her Tickled Floral team did a brilliant job bringing Leah’s “overgrown English garden” inspiration to life.  For the centerpieces, bouquets and altar arrangements, Leah’s biggest request was “Don’t make them too perfect.”  It’s her belief that things don’t need to be perfect to be beautiful.  (Something she applies not only to her flower selection but also to life.  Which is one of the many reasons I adore this girl.)

As a general rule, Leah and Chad are a pretty darn stylish couple and their wedding day attire was no exception!  Leah wore a gorgeous Christos gown that she found at The Dress Theory in Seattle.  The soft tulle gown featured a ruched bodice and fitted natural waist perfect for Leah’s shape.  She went against the standard sweetheart neckline and instead selected a scooped neckline with beaded cap sleeves which was a feminine and elegant choice.  The A-line skirt was full but not so full that it overtook her frame, it was just right.  Delicate accessories complemented the pearls on the cap sleeves and a simple veil tucked into her classic up-do provided the perfect finishing touch.
Now as many of you know, bridal gowns are my wheelhouse.  I’ve worked as a bridal consultant for years helping brides put together their perfect look but my experience with suits is limited.  So when I heard that Chad’s suit was going to be a little different I really didn’t know what to expect, but let me tell you – I was delightfully surprised when I saw his selection!  Chad went beyond classic black, grey or navy and really raised the bar for grooms everywhere by wearing a perfectly tailored Hugo Boss suit in a deep wine colour.  Chad paired that deep, rich reddish purple toned suit with a Burberry print tie and brown shoes and let me just say…it’s quite possibly my favourite grooms look of all time!  Seriously, I defy you to disagree!

The bridal party also cleaned up pretty nicely.  The groomsmen wore navy suits from Suit Supply to coordinate with the bridesmaids navy coloured Eliza and Ethan gowns from Novelle Bridal.  Both Leah and her girls also had faux fur wraps to keep themselves cozy in the chilly January air during their outdoor photos!  And we can’t forget about hair and make up!  The beauty team from Behind The Blush really did a fantastic job getting the ladies glammed up for the big day!

Revolution Entertainment provided not only the DJ for the evening (who was awesome and kept the dance floor jumping all night!) but they also provided the transportation for the day.  The team at Revolution are amazing at what they do and made it incredibly easy for Leah and Chad to confidently cross two things off their checklist at once.

Because there were quite a few guests in attendance with food allergies and/or gluten sensitivities it was important to Chad and Leah that their food be safe for everyone to enjoy.  They chose a varied selection of appetizers for the cocktail hour and the Hotel MacDonald offered three entree choices to ensure that each guest was able to select something that worked for their tastes and dietary needs.  I saw a lot of empty plates at the end of the meal so I think it’s safe to say that no one left hungry!
And of course, what’s a wedding without cake?  Cakes by Candace created a custom vanilla chai spice flavoured gluten free naked cake.  Cakes by Candace has amazing gluten free cakes and cupcakes.  They are also completely nut free and totally kosher! Chad and Leah’s naked cake was topped with a custom poodle cake topper in a little nod to their dog, Milo the poodle.

Perhaps now is a good time to mention that Leah and Chad are VERY proud poodle parents.  At the time of their wedding they had one little guy named Milo who was honoured in a few sweet touches throughout the wedding.  Not only was the cake topper poodle themed but they included a little poodle emblem on their invitations and he was mentioned in more than one toast throughout the evening!  (Clearly Milo is a popular pup!)  Since the wedding they have added another little guy to their family, Bruno the poodle!  Even I, someone who is not a dog person, must admit that both dogs are pretty darn cute!  They show up in my Instagram feed occasionally and I’m not mad about it. #milothepoodle #brunothepoodle

Now that I’ve talked your ears off, it’s time to check out some photos from this beautiful wedding!  Erin Walker of Erin Walker Photography is the artistic genius behind Leah and Chad’s wedding photos.  She is a super talented photographer AND the co-founder of Calibrate, a retreat for photographers designed to help both seasoned and fresh photographers develop their skills and be a part of a community.  If you’re reading this and you are a photographer I would highly encourage you to check it out!

So, without any further rambling and certainly no more adieu, here are some of my favourite shots from Chad and Leah’s wedding. <3

Thank you Chad and Leah for allowing me to be a part of your day!
